Jeff Archer began his career in the Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) field with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency in 1991 after receiving his M.S. in Chemistry from Oklahoma State University. After moving to the Office of Regulatory Affairs at the U.S. Food & Drug Administration in 2001, he became a National Expert in the POPs field where he focused on streamlining POP methods and data processing. Jeff has received multiple awards for his contributions within the POPs program including the EPA Bronze Medal for Commendable Service and the FDA Award of Merit for Exceptional Leadership.
About the Presentation
The gold standard for the determination of legacy Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) which includes polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins (PCDDs), polychlorinated dibenzofurans (PCDFs), polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), and polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) had not significantly evolved for over 40 years. In this presentation, the new instrumentation, extraction procedures, as well as novel data processing and evaluations used in an accredited laboratory will be discussed. Similar streamlined methodologies and software processes are now being evaluated for per- and polyfluorinated alkyl substances (PFAS) determinations in an accredited laboratory.
